In the Universalist religion, adherents believe that the Lord of Lies was once one of six Arch-Celestials who attended the One God in the Heavens. He was thrown out of the Heavens for daring to confront the One God’s supremacy.
But defenders of the Lord of Lies, including members of his secret, illegal sect, believe that the Lord of Lies (whom they call the Angel of Light or the Angel of Knowledge) was banished for simply questioning the One God’s many contradictions. Some ancient texts that are forbidden as blasphemous recount how the Lord of Lies could not reconcile how a God of Peace could allow so much bloodshed in his name; how a God of Love could condemn consensual, nonprocreative sex; how he could be All Powerful and All Seeing, yet allow disease and hunger and suffering; how a God of Forgiveness and Mercy could be so jealous, allegedly causing natural disasters to smite those who were not devout.
