In the Áes Camáir legends of Trevena, particularly in the epic poem King Ádair and the Castle of Trevena — part of the The Ádairiad sagas penned by the bard Gwytheon — King Ádair built Trevena to be the greatest castle ever known to the Sonaide Bri.
It was built on land granted to King Ádair by the wizard Myogan, the Kestrel, build around Myogan’s own longstanding tower. According to legend, King Ádair vowed he would not have a family until the fortress was complete.
King Ádair used treasure taken from the goblin wars to hire the finest artisans and builders in the land, paying them handsomely for their labors. The principle part of the keep took five years to complete, and when it was done, King Ádair declared that he would marry Queen Whenfara. Ádair continued to expand the fortress for the next twenty years, but it wasn’t until he declared the castle to be complete, despite one remaining tower still only halfway constructed, that Queen Whenfara was finally able to carry a pregnancy to term, delivering twins.
Trevena was destroyed when a powerful demon, Baylígûr, was accidentally summoned through the wiles of the dark sorceress Lafáil Ravenwyrd, and Myogan could only destroy him by bringing down the very walls of Trevena on him.
